On behalf of the Board of Directors and our members, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the Council of Rockford Gardeners (CRG).
Since our founding in 1980, the Council has served as a unifying organization for gardeners throughout the Rockford region. What began as the collaboration of four independent garden clubs—Plantaholics, Potpourri, Seedlings, and Wildflower—has grown into one of the Midwest's largest and most respected gardening organizations, with approximately 130 members dedicated to education, conservation, and community service.
Our strength lies not only in our shared passion for gardening, but also in our commitment to serving our community. CRG members generously volunteer their time and talents in public gardens throughout the region, support the Rock Valley Food Pantry Garden, and participate in numerous beautification and horticultural projects that enhance the quality of life for our neighbors.
Education remains one of our highest priorities. Each year, we proudly award a scholarship to an outstanding horticulture student, helping to cultivate the next generation of horticultural professionals. To date, the Council has awarded 40 scholarships, reflecting our enduring investment in the future of gardening and environmental stewardship.
One of our proudest traditions is our annual Free Garden Walk, now in its 46th year. This signature event has featured nearly 350 exceptional gardens and welcomed close to 30,000 visitors over the years. Recently recognized as the Best Garden Walk in Illinois for two consecutive years, it has become one of the state's premier horticultural events and a source of pride for our entire community.
Whether you are a lifelong gardener or just discovering the joy of gardening, you will find a welcoming home within the Council of Rockford Gardeners. Our member clubs offer friendship, education, inspiration, and opportunities to make a meaningful difference through volunteer service and community engagement.
